Gorlin Syndrome

Gorlin syndrome, also known as nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS), is a condition that affects many areas of the body and increases the risk of developing various tumors.

Features of the condition

Risk Factors

  • Multiple basal cell skin cancers
  • Jaw cysts (keratocysts)
  • Pits on the palms and soles of feet
  • Childhood brain cancer (medulloblastoma)
  • Large head size (macrocephaly)
  • Skeletal changes, particularly of the skull, spinal column and ribs
  • Fibromas of the ovaries or heart
  • Eye disease
  • Family history of Gorlin syndrome
