Hemophilia

Hemophilia is an inherited bleeding disorder that slows the blood clotting process.  The two major forms of hemophilia (types A and B) are usually seen in males, although sometimes females can have hemophilia.  Hemophilia is usually inherited from the mother's side of the family.

Symptoms

  • Excessive and prolonged bleeding after an injury
  • Spontaneous bleeding
  • Bleeding into the joints, muscles, brain, or other internal organs
  • Excessive bruising

Causes/Risk Factors

  • Family history of hemophilia
