Leukemia

Leukemia is a cancer of the bone marrow and blood. The vast majority of leukemias develop by random chance and do not run in the family. However, some leukemias can be hereditary when they are seen with other types of cancer in the family.

  • History of chemotherapy
  • Down syndrome
  • Exposure to chemicals or radiation
  • Smoking
  • Most people who get leukemia do not have any risk factors
